Mimosa pudica, also called sensitive plant, humble plant, touch me not, shame plant, is a prostrate or semi-erect subshrub plant native to Asia and the Pacific Islands, and in the pea family (Fabaceae).
It is named Mimosa because its leaves respond to heat and light and close immediately when touched by external forces. Shaped like pompoms. After flowering pods, fruit is oblate. Leaves for feather - shaped compound leaves alternate, palmate arrangement. Flowering after midsummer, head oblong, 2-3 borne in leaf axils. Flowers are white, pink, calyx bell-shaped, with 8 tiny calyx teeth, petals 4-lobed, four stamens, ovary glabrous. Pod flat, 1 seed per pod segment, shedding at maturity. The flowering period is 9 months.
