Product Description

The Butterbur plant contains flavor constituents, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and many polyphenols. The anti-allergenic properties of the aerial portion of the plant can be attributed to the eremophilane type sesquiterpenes (of which Petasin & Iso-Petasin are major constituents), fukinone. An advantage to using the aerial portion of the plant, the portion consumed as food, is that it does not contain the high levels of PA's (pyrrolizidine alkaloids) found in the root and rhizome.

Modern pharmacological studies have shown that the compounds contained in the plant have antispasmodic effects. Thymol methyl ether has strong bactericidal effect, and low toxicity, good disinfection and sterilization effect on the mouth and throat, but also can promote the movement of tracheal cilia, conducive to the secretion of tracheal mucus, easy to play expectorant role, can be used to treat bronchitis, pertussis and so on.
